On Sunday, the sun was shining, the breeze was gently blowing and we headed off to the Kamberg to go for a walk and a swim.
If you want to to see the photos, log onto Faceook and search for the Rising River youth group. That’s us and all our photos are on there.
We left from the church bright and early at 7am and climbed into the bakkies. An hour later, we arrived, signed the mountain register and headed off. The walk was magnificent. We wandered up the river valley in between the high hills of the little berg. About three quarters of the way there, three rivers meet and we took the left hand one. There was no path so a good bit of bundu bashing brought us to the top of a steep grass slope looking down on a series of stunning pools.
Scrambled down the slope and hit the huge flat picnic rocks where we offloaded all of our gear and attempted to swim. COLD! VERY COLD!!!! Only Jenna and Jethro were brave enough to get right in. It took the rest of us a while to get up the nerve. Below the picnic rock is a waterfall with a deep pool at the base. It was this that Alex and Matthew were heading for when they came across a foot long striped skaapsteeker. Nervous laughter all round but we didn’t bother it and it didn’t bother us.
Finally we all got into the pool below the falls and spend about an hour bruning in the sun and freezing in the water. When all foolishness was over, we scampered back up to the picnic rock and spend the rest of our time sleeping, chilling, eating and taking photos of the amazing beauty of the place.
12:30 and it was time to get going so up we packed and pointed our noses for home. The walk home is predominantly downhill!! Always nice. We got back a bit quicker than we went out and so sat in the sun at the base and shared what was left of Jennas enormous food ration that her mum had packed for her (thanks Fiona).
We drove home having spent a grand day out in God’s Cathedral. We promise to do it again (maybe not at Kamberg but definitely somewhere)
We are blessed.
