Finally the pics have been uploaded…enjoy
Bright azure skies, sighs of wind, and a sparkling sun greeted us today as we arrived at the garage to go to Umgeni Valley (again, should I add, after the abseiling episode!) and spend some time there in nature on a short walk. Unfortunately Jenna, the Miller guys and Francois couldn’t make it, leaving just myself and Shaun to head off in his bakkie to the Valley. After lightening our loads by R15 each for entry, we cruised to a stop at The Pines picnic spot, loaded up some “electrolytes” as Shaun put it (Energade if you must know) and started off for the beginning of the Shelter Falls trail.
We enjoyed our surroundings and eventually we arrived at the Bush Camp, where we checked out the accommodation on offer. (rustic, yes, but isn’t that the whole idea?) Walking out of the camp we ran into an obstacle course where we tried to decipher how to “conquer” each obstacle. (I had already been there once so I sort of knew the idea)
Finally at the outer end of the trail we came to the bum slide, a very cool shaped rock with a stream flowing through it almost like a Wet ‘n Wild slide. As the water was a bit on the ch-ch-chilly side we took a rain check on the swimming and instead sat awhile, marvelling at the creation and discussing heaven and the concept of time.
Finally we had to move on back, but on the way we took a slightly different route, to pass by the top of Shelter Falls and look up from the bottom of another small waterfall near the Pines Picnic site.
Back at the bakkie, we cruised out and home, wrapping up a great morning of hiking in God’s creation, right on our doorstep!
