What Went Down–31 October

My apologies again for the lack of updates: exams have kept me busy…I know it’s not an excuse so here come the updates rolling from 3 weeks back (tsk tsk, I hear you saying).

Today was the Shalom day…small problem though..I was feeling lousy so everyone else went to Angus Buchan’s church without me (sob). What i can tell you from what they’ve told me from the experience is that is was an amazing service, with their own youth band being the worship team for the main service. What Alex said was the most amazing was that a church led by the man who managed to get over 300 000 men to his Mighty Men Conference has a very cozy and intimate regular service, led on this occasion by the youth leader, which gave Alex an opportunity to find out how other youths do their thing!

The one hopeful thing is that Alex is definitely wanting to go again so that might mean I’ll be able to join second time round!

What Went Down–16 May 2010

Today’s session was a photo slide show combined with a look at the book of the Bible most would rather not check out: Revelation. As Shaun and Robyn just got back from a fantastic 5-week sojourn in Turkey, Greece and Cairo, but mainly Turkey. As Alex tells me, they’ve taken over 3000 photos (yes, 3 zero’s!) so today we got a chance to check out some of those, and correlate Shaun & Robyn’s places to the places in Revelation. (Their aim was to visit the 7 churches mentioned in Revelation, check this link out for more)

The simple way to put this is that the architecture, care and work that must have gone into the building of those ancient churches, domes, towers, bath houses, aqueducts, stadiums and amphitheatres is astounding, and the history behind these structures dates back to Biblical times. It was amazing to find out how the details mentioned in this link [Bible passage] make sense when you look at them in picture, such as the mentioning of the luke warm style of the Christians at Laodicea: the bath houses there have 3 distinct separations: Cold, Lukewarm, and Hot.

All in all it was a fantastic look at both at what must have been a brilliant holiday for Shaun and Robyn, and the significance and Biblical relation of the places to what was in Revelation.
